Spending money to repair or replace your roof isn’t a small expenditure which is why it’s extremely important to choose a qualified roof company.
In the residential roofing space, there are often storm chasers that come from out-of-state to undercut local companies and provide low quality surface.
In the commercial roofing space, however, there are less scammy companies yet there are still some important criteria you should look for including:
Online Reviews of a Commercial Roofing Company
While it’s important to check a roofer’s website for the quality of work they do, it’s equally important to scope peer reviews.
Sites such as Google Reviews, Yelp, and other home service sites could be a good starting point when researching a commercial roof.
Pay especially close attention to the depth of the reviews, the intervals from when they happen, and if there’s enough detail to show that it was a true customer. Additionally, check the credentials of the reviewer to see if they have written several reviews for other businesses and what their rating distribution looks like. If it’s seems like a fake account that only writes 5-star reviews then you can almost bet it’s not genuine.
(Caution: We’ve heard of several roofing companies in Omaha paying a third party company to manipulate and flood their Google reviews with fake reviews.)
Test Their Knowledge of Roof Coatings
It has come to our attention that several other Omaha Roofing Companies that primarily worked in residential space are now entering the Commercial Roofing side of things, and particularly offering roof coatings.
As the Commercial Roofer in Omaha that has been doing roof coatings for the longest, we urge everyone to “test their knowledge”. These could be technical questions such as:
- How do you prepare a commercial roof for coatings?
- How long have you been doing roof coatings?
- What types of equipment or tools do you use to install roof coatings?
Based on the specificity of their answer and depth, you can quickly determine if a roofer is knowledgeable in roof coatings.
Ask for References
This may be the most biased screening option because it puts the control back into the roofing company of which names they give as references, however, it’s still important to ask.
A good roofer should have at least a few names ready to hand over upon request. This will allow you to speak directly to a previous customer and really get the nitty gritty on installation, customer service, and overall delivery of the prospective roofer.
We encourage building owners to get at least 2-3 references and specifically focus on questions of customer service, quality of work, communication, and service after the sale. These traits are what make a good roof company because materials can often be standardized, but service can’t.
Summary
There are many commercial roof companies out there and as a consumer, you get several choices to select. By doing your own research and narrowing down your options, you can look beyond price and find a company with a high value when you factor in product, delivery, service, and much more.
