Our Team Tried 5 New Trending Restaurants in Omaha

When you run a commercial roofing company in Omaha, there can often be a divide between our office and field staff. In a continued effort to cross departmental lines and grow as a whole team, we support local restaurants together.

The last time we did this, we tried 5 of the oldest restaurants in Omaha, but we wanted to change things up a bit. This time, we chose to eat at 5 trending restaurants in Omaha as determined by suggestions featured on the Omaha Food Lovers page on Facebook.

With the help of the group owner, Stacy Winters, we narrowed it down to the following 5 restaurants: Williamsburg Pizza, Isla Del Mar II, Muchachos, Sauced by Alfaro, and Gyro Kings.

Williamsburg Pizza

It’s a well-known fact that Williamsburg Pizza is a big deal in New York, with having 5 locations located throughout the state. They have nearly 30k followers on their Instagram account, a Rolodex of famous people who endorse their pizza, and a whole stack of noteworthy accolades.

So then it was much to Omaha’s luck that one of the owners is a native and thought opening a location here in town would be fitting.

Equally surprising was their setup in a shopping strip attached to a Jimmy John’s. Completely unpretentious for the caliber of pizza we would soon enjoy.

We ordered about 6 pizzas and ate them “family style.” The crust was cooked to perfection with an outer crunch and inner chewiness, the toppings were generous, and each variety was full of diverse flavors. They were accommodating to our larger group and still had the food out in a short amount of time.

Overall, our team agreed it was among the best pizzas Omaha offers.

Isla Del Mar

With the opening of its second location in West Omaha, Isla Del Mar has quickly made a name for itself as the Mexican/Seafood place. There are a few places in Omaha where you can get a boat of sushi alongside a birria pizza and finish with a dessert from their adjacent bakery.

I don’t know any other restaurant in Omaha that can say that.

Isla Del Mar was a no-brainer to pick as another option for our team lunch. Their restaurant was massive, as was their menu, so it was easy to fit a group of our size and have enough variety to satisfy every palate.

We ordered birria fries, fajitas, tacos, fried fish, quesadillas, and margaritas among our group. The food and drinks were fresh and plentiful, and I didn’t hear a single complaint. No doubt, this is a place where you could fit large groups and satiate even the pickiest of eaters.

Muchachos

Muchachos holds a special place in my heart. Not due to their community involvementhonest and raw social media posts, or because they won the 2023 Munch Madness in Lincoln.

It was several years ago, during the height of the pandemic in 2020, that I reached out to see if they would drive their food truck and park at the end of my driveway, and somehow, they agreed. So I was surprised when they announced in 2023 that they would open an Omaha location.

Before the words “Mexican BB Fusion” left my mouth, everyone was on board with adding Muchachos to the lineup of restaurants. Unlike our previous visit to Isla Del Mar, Muchachos has a much more simplistic menu consisting of tacos, quesadillas, nachos, and burritos combined with their smoked meats and signature fixings (queso, mac, and slaw).

Any entree on their menu combines those ingredients, give or take a few.

A few of us ordered their pipeline burrito and polished them off without issue. Despite a small storefront, the restaurant is relatively spacious once you step inside, so fitting our large group was no issue. Pricing was fair, and portions were plentiful; what’s not to love about a place full of personality and quality food?

Sauced by Alfaro

The line at the door before opening should’ve been our first clue. The warm welcome we received should’ve been our second clue.

But we knew we had picked correctly when the food started rolling in in successive deliveries to our table.

So much could be said about this restaurant and the owner who runs it. Not only does she have a heart of gold that closely aligns with our values, but her food is as epic as her customer service.

Between the in-person and phone orders, they were swamped right from the start, but that didn’t stop her and her team from checking on us regularly to ensure our food was coming.

True to their reputation, their sauces, sandwiches, and everything were as impressive as everyone has described. The sandwiches were as large as they appeared in the pictures, and the hospitality was as warm as you’d imagine.

Gyro Kings

We were down to our last option for local Omaha restaurants, and there were some solid contenders; however, the reviews for Gyro Kings quickly made them the undeniable choice.

I had messaged the owner about a week before our large group came, and they had sectioned off enough tables to hold our group. The menu here was simple, with the obvious choices of gyro sandwiches, gyro platters, and gyro salads with chicken, beef, or falafel as the options.

Our group got a mix of everything, and even with a large order (about 15 of us), our food came within 10-15 minutes of ordering. It’s worth noting that the food was beautifully prepared, very reasonably priced, and incredibly delicious.

If you decide to go, I highly recommend the Combo Platter. It was enough to feed two, but it could be eaten by one person with the proper appetite.

Summary

We are fortunate as Omahans to have such a diverse, solid lineup of local businesses. Now that we’ve done the oldest restaurants in Omaha and trending restaurants in Omaha, what should we try next?

P.S. If this looks like a roofing company you’d want to e̶a̶t̶ ̶a̶t̶ work for, we are currently hiring!
