Why You Shouldn’t Put Off Fixing Your Commercial Roof

When it comes to fixing your commercial roof, it sometimes doesn’t take the priority it needs to. Other operating expenses come and take precedence. And let’s be honest, putting money towards your industrial or commercial roof isn’t the most glamorous thing.

However, there are some compelling reasons why you shouldn’t put off repairing your commercial roof. Mainly these 4 reasons:

Increased Repair Costs

We’ve noticed a trend that many of our prospective roofing clients will get a bid and put off starting their roof repair for one reason or another. What will inevitably happen is when large amounts of rain or storms come rolling through, it now becomes an emergency.

Delaying these repairs will almost always make the situation worse by exacerbating a problematic roof and potentially increasing the costs.

Not to mention the rate of inflation seems to be changing rapidly so our “raw” costs may not be the same amount by the time you decide to go forth with your project.

Safety Hazards

Depending on the severity of your leak, the seeping water could pose a fall risk to your employees. In a more extreme sense it could deteriorate your roof structure and collapse.

There was an unfortunate situation where we once walked an industrial roof that was moderately unstable. We found out that several months later they hired another roofing contractor and that person unfortunately fell through the roof and lost their life.

Increasing Vulnerability to Damage

A leaky commercial roof just doesn’t get better with time. Water can be one of the most damaging things for the inside of a building- there’s issue was moisture/mold, slip/falls, and damage to equipment inside a commercial building.

Any major damage caused by a leak could potentially disrupt operations and force you to temporarily shut down to repair the issue. This is especially true of food manufacturing plants that cannot legally operate with a leaky roof.

A recent story talked about Abbott Industries operating a baby formula plant with a leaky roof which caused bacteria to spread. Unfortunately some infants who consumed that production batch of baby formula were reported to suffer sickness. This plant was immediately shut down in February with no expectation of resuming operations until June.

This was a significant loss in production for the company and all due to a leaky industrial roof.t.

Summary

We recognize that many businesses put off repairing their commercial or industrial roof for one reason or another. We just ask you consider if the delay could be costing your business more each day with increasing damage and potential risks associated with a leaky roof.
